Farm Bill

The American Relief Act, 2025, signed into law on December 21, 2024, extended the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (also known as the 2018 Farm Bill) for one year through Sept. 30, 2025.

The 2018 Farm Bill extension enables the continuation of Farm Bill-authorized programs for one year, including safety-net, price support and conservation programs available through USDA.

Available Farm Bill Programs

The extension authorizes the following FSA Farm Bill programs to continue:

FSA Safety-Net Programs

FSA Price Support Programs

FSA Conservation Programs

Other FSA Programs

While not impacted by the Farm Bill extension,  FSA continues to implement its farm loan and disaster assistance programs including:

NRCS Conservation Programs

Prior to the extension of the 2018 Farm Bill, the statutory and funding authorizations for these programs were extended through Fiscal Year 2031 by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022:

Federal Crop Insurance

Crop insurance is one of the programs that is permanently authorized and does not expire. Crop insurance is not impacted by the Farm Bill extension.

Key Changes

The 2018 Farm Bill continued funding for USDA’s major programs that serve you. The new legislation did prescribe changes to some of these programs. 

Additionally, the 2018 Farm Bill reclassified hemp, and it is now legal to grow industrial hemp. Learn more about Hemp and Farm Programs.
